On Friday, GW faced local rival Navy in their first meeting of the season. At first, it seemed like it would be a very typical even matchup as has historically been the case between GW and Navy. However, at the 11-minute mark, a GW goal by Jake Lessick gave them the lead and they never looked back. Terhar netted the first goal of his hattrick on the power play late in the first, and GW carried a 2-0 lead into the second period.
The second period played out much like the first, with GW and Navy exchanging chances, but no goals until late in the second period. Alex Katsihtis got the first goal of the second at the 6-minute mark (his third goal in three games), and Ryan Ferizovic scored less than a minute later (his second in as many games) to give GW a commanding 4-0 lead. Navy finally cashed in on one of their many second period power plays to cut the lead to 4-1.
The third period saw Terhar get his second goal of the game early on. The teams would battle back and forth - trading scoring opportunities and power plays - until Navy scored with 4-minutes remaining. Terhar would finish off the hattrick mere seconds later, with a final score of 6-2.
Dylan Cleary not only got the win in net, but also got an assist on the final goal - the first point registered by a goalie this season.
GW takes on cross-town rival Georgetown next Saturday at 9:30pm at Prince William Ice Center in an ACCHL matchup. They have also just added an away game against Johns Hopkins for Sunday at 7:00pm at Ice World in Abingdon, MD.
