For the second time in two years, GW faced off against Georgetown following a Washington Capitals preseason matchup. In front of a crowd of at least one-thousand, GW fought a back-and-forth battle with their cross-town rivals and held on to win 2-1.
Junior forward Alec Yerkovich got the scoring started pretty much off the opening faceoff, tilting the crow decidedly in the Colonials' side throughout the first period. Senior goalie Alec Astorga stopped everything he saw in his period, leaving GW up 1-0 after the first. In the second period, it was Georgetown's turn for a quick strike, as they tied the game up also pretty much off the opening faceoff. After, senior goalie Dan Soar settled back in and stopped everything he saw to keep it 1-0. Grad student goalie Corey Nadell kept the game 1-1 until Alec Yerkovich could net his second of the night to give GW the 2-1 lead. Nadell would be perfect the rest of the night and GW hung on for the win.
Next weekend, GW head's down to North Carolina for their first in-league games, with matchups against NC State, UNC-Wilmington, and Elon for the Stephen Russell Tournament.
