For their final College Hockey Night in DC on Friday, October 26, GW hosted Virginia Tech. This game had much less scoring than previous efforts, but GW came out on top. The first period only saw one goal at the halfway mark by freshman forward Andrew Fromen. In the second period, the team traded a pair of goals late, with Fromen netting his second of the game, to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room. GW expanded their lead to 4-1 early in the third on goals by senior forward Nick Celani and grad student forward Ryan Rice. Senior goalie Alec Astorga got the win in net saving 26 of 27 shots.
The next week, GW hosted St. Joe's in their first league matchup of the season. Again, GW scored the only goal in the first, this one coming from freshman defenseman Eddie Tuohy. And also once again, the teams traded goals in the second period to make it 2-1 GW with their goal coming from freshman forward Cooper May. GW expanded their lead to 3-1 early in the third on a goal by sophomore defenseman Samuel Kirby. St. Joe's would net one late in the game to bring the score to 3-2, but that would be as close as they would come. Alec Astorga again got the win in net, this time saving 41 of 43 shots.
GW travels to Philadelphia next weekend to take on the University of Delaware and St. Joe's.
