Infusion of new high-end talent has Colonials hopeful

Tryouts are completed and your 2019-2020 GW Colonials have been chosen!

This year's offense will be led by returning seniors Alec Yerkovich and Diego Rebollar, who have been named Captain and Alternate Captain, respectively.  Also returning are seniors Joseph Frongillo, juniors Cameron Rapoza and Justin Storer, and sophomores Grey Harral and Cooper May.  Added to this returning core will be a couple of graduate students with prior ACHA experience: Christian Fay (Dayton) and Zach Arden (Maryland).  Sophomore Hadi Sultan (North Broward Prep) has joined the team after skipping a year.  Coming in as freshman are Augie Burkhardt (East Coast Wizards, Jr. B) and Nick Karlsson (St. Mark's School).

The defense will be led by juniors Jack McGeary and Sam Kirby, who have both been named alternate captains.  Jack McGeary is also serving behind the scenes as team President.  Also returning are grad student Sam Powers for his 5th and final year as well as sophomore Eddie Tuohy.  They will be joined by freshman Christopher Finkelstein (Long Island Edge).

Finally, our goalie corps will feature graduate student David Neu and sophomore Zach Lesniakowski, who will both get into their first games this season.  They are joined by freshman Graham Roy (Jersey Bandits/Montclair HS).

The returning core, bolstered by new players with ACHA experience as well as new players with junior/prep experience gives the Colonials hope of having a very successful 25th season!  However, just because games are beginning does not mean you've missed your chance to play.  We are still in search of a few more players to round out our roster.  If interested, please contact gwhockey@gwu.edu ASAP so that you can join us at an upcoming tryout.  ALL degree-seeking students (undergrad, grad, doctoral, and law) are eligible to play, even online students!  And this year's schedule boasts the lowest travel since moving to D2 and practices are being held at the brand new St. James sports complex which is closer to campus and at an earlier time than our previous practice rink - so if you were on the fence about joining this is a great year to give it a try.

That said, the season does roll on.  GW will see their first game action at their home opener this Friday, September 27, vs. James Madison at 8:45pm at the St. James.  They will then head down 95 to face UVA in their first conference game on Saturday, September 28th at 4:10pm at the Richmond Ice Zone.  We hope you can join us as we kick off our 25th season!
