Special teams and solid goaltending lead to 6-1 victory over 1st-time opponent

On Friday night, the Colonials faced Holy Cross for the 1st-time ever.  Despite missing ACCHL All-Stars Max Terhar and Austin Fruchter (missing for academic endeavors), the squad put together a full team effort to snag a 6-1 win.

Nick Ryan led the team in scoring with his first hattrick of the season (supported by 2 Luke Yerkovich assists), and Alex Katsihtis quarterbacked the first power play unit with 3 assists as they went 3 for 8 to continue their success with the man advantage (currently at 45.8% efficiency).  Alec Weinberg had 2 goals and Jake Lessick had 1.

On the defensive side of the puck, Dylan Cleary made 33 of 34 saves, including 14 in the third period alone, to keep Holy Cross off the board until about 6 minutes left to go in the third period.  He and the penalty kill unit also managed the keep the puck out of the net during all 7 of Holy Cross' man-advantages.

Next weekend, GW heads down to North Carolina to take on Elon, Wake Forest, and UNC-Chapel Hill in their first taste of in-conference action at the Stephen Russel Memorial Tournament.  They return home on Friday, October 16th for a 6:40pm Revolutionary Rivalry matchup against George Mason for Colonials Weekend at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
