On Friday, GW played in their first league home game of the season against new ACCHL member Saint Joe's. GW had beaten Saint Joe's in two non-league games in past years in close matches.
Despite presumably having bus legs, Saint Joe's came out on fire netting the first goal of the game. However, a pair of goals from GW Grad Students Ryan Ferizovic and Kevin Zhang lifted GW to a 2-1 lead. Late in the first, due to a miscue off a defensive zone faceoff, Saint Joe's would tie the game at 2.
The second period was a hard-fought, back-and-forth affair with no one yielding a goal until 3 minutes left in the period when Alex Katsihtis wired a point shot into the top corner of the net on the power play. Nick Ryan, who now has 3 game-winning-goals on the season, would get an even-strength goal less than a minute later that would stand up as the game winner.
GW's power play, currently operating at 38.5%, went to work in the third period as Will Yerkovich and Zhang each netted power play goals. Saint Joe's would get one more goal, for a final score of 6-3. Dylan Cleary got the win in net stopping 38 out of 42 shots.
GW will face Navy at Kettler Capitals Iceplex at 11pm next Friday, October 30th for another ACCHL matchup.
