Over the past two weeks, GW has had three games against two different Pennsylvania opponents. Two Fridays ago, GW hosted St. Joe's in their first home league game of the season. The first period would be a back-and-forth affair, but GW would outscore St. Joe's 4-3 in the first off goals by sophomore Brian Sargent, Senior Jake Lessick (2), and junior Tommy O'Connor. St. Joe's would tie it up early in the second, but grad student Kevin Zhang would take back the lead in the middle of the stanza and GW would keep the lead going into the third. Goals by sophomore Will Yerkovich and Sargent would increase GW's lead to three, but St. Joe's would get one more for a final score of 7-5. Alec Astorga would get the win in net.
This past Friday, GW headed up to Lehigh Valley, PA to first face off against Kutztown University. It would be all GW from the start and that wouldn't let up. The first period featured 4 goals by GW players (and none by Kutztown): junior Alex Katsihtis, Lessick (2), and junior Alec Weinberg. GW would add another by Sargent at the start of the second period before Kutztown would add two goals. GW would add three more goals before the end of the period: one by junior Zack Smolev and Weinberg would complete his hattrick on the penalty kill. Weinberg would add another at the start of the third, as would junior Connor Varley before Kutztown would add a goal. Lessick would then finish his hattrick and add another, and Smolev would get another as well before Kutztown managed another goal. Finally, Smolev would finish his hattrick and Katsihtis would get his second of the night. Final score 15-4 GW. Ben Berner would get the win in net with 23 saves.
The next day, GW would head over to Haverford, PA to finish up their season series with St. Joe's. Once again, St. Joe's would get on the board first about halfway through the period, and that would be the only goal of the first. GW would regroup and Lessick would tie the game up at 1 early in the second, and then Weinberg would give GW their first lead of the game halfway through the second, and they'd take a 2-1 lead into the third. Weinberg would add another early in the third on the power play to take a 3-1 lead, but St. Joe's would get two more in the middle part of the period to tie the game at 3. Neither team would score for the remainder of the period. Alec Astorga would stand tall in 5 minutes of overtime, as GW got outshot by St. Joe's 6-1 in OT, and would preserve the tie.
GW now stands tied with Georgetown for the North Division lead (GW has two games in hand). GW will face Georgetown each of the next two weekends:
S, 11/12, 8:00pm at Prince William (Woodbridge, VA) - GW vs. Georgetown
