New Recruits Adds Size, Skill, and Depth; ACC Champ D-man Returns

With tryouts complete and game one against George Mason coming up this Friday (9/21, 8pm, Medstar Capitals Iceplex) – the GW Colonials are proud to introduce this year’s roster!

This year’s captain will be senior forward Will Yerkovich, and he will be assisted by senior forward Brian Sargent, junior forward Alec Yerkovich, and junior defenseman Adam Micciche.

The Yerkovich brothers and Sargent are joined on offense by returning senior Nicholas Celani; returning juniors Diego Rebollar and Joseph Frongillo; returning sophomores Justin Storer, Sun Oh Chung, Cameron Rapoza, and Elias Korpela; and returning grad students Connor Varley and Ryan Rice.  This year’s recruiting class at forward brings a lot of size and talent with new sophomore Bennett Levy (Phillips Exeter Academy Varsity) and new freshmen Myles Paton (Cambridge Rindge and Latin Varsity), Cooper May (Yarmouth High School Varisty and Casco Bay Mariners U18 AAA), Grey Harrall (Boulder High School Varsity), and Andrew Fromen (Nichols School Prep A).

Adam Micciche, who in addition to assistant captain is also serving as team treasurer, is joined on defense by returning senior John Wright; returning sophomores Samuel Kirby and Jack McGeary; and after a two-year absence Samuel Powers returns as a grad student for his final year of eligibility.  Sam last played for the team in 2016 as a senior on the ACCHL Championship winning team.  They are joined on defense by two sizeable freshman additions in Eddie Tuohy (Salisbury School Varisity) and Christopher “Kit” Shaw (Hamilton-Wenham High School Varsity).

In goal, senior Alec Astorga will once again lead the team between the pipes as well as serve as vice president.  He is joined by grad student Corey Nadell, who is serving as team president, and junior Daniel Soar.  GW’s goalie corps has expanded to five this season with the additions of grad student David Neu (Arizona State ACHA D2) and freshman Zachary Lesniakowski (Central Catholic High School Varsity).

Head coach John Moynihan returns behind the bench off of another coach-of-the-year award, and is joined by defense coach and general manager David Baratta and forward coaches Max Terhar and Luke Yerkovich.

The team is excited to get the season underway beginning with their home opener this Friday, September 21st, against George Mason.  Game time is 8pm and the game is at the recently-renamed Medstar Capitals Iceplex (formerly Kettler).  For more information on the game, check out our Facebook event page.
